*ing Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Trisha, Karthi, J Ravi etc
Directed By Mani Ratnam
Music by AR Rehman
The film is an adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy’s historical novel named Ponniyin Selvan.
Plot :
The turbulent South India of 10th century where the Cholas, Rashtrakutas and Pandya trying to ascertain their supremacy on the lands south of Godavari River.
The Cholas having defeated all others under the leadership of Aditya Karikalan (Vikram) now try to avenge the Cholas and plot to kill the heirs of Chola Dynasty all on same day.
meanwhile and internal family issue to ascend the throne also comes to fore adding fuel to fire.
Vikram as Aditya played extraordinarily, supported by his J Ravi as Ponniyin Selvan.
Trisha as usual glamourous and played Princess Kundhavai.
Karthi as Vandhiyathevan’s, the most trusted friend of Chola princes played his role with ease, infact he is the highlight of the film.
Aishwarya as Nandini has played her role with grace, Her power packed action and expressions suit the role very well.
Mani Ratnam’s for detail and Choosing the right man for the right job is the crux of the success of the film, least to say about AR Rehman for his wonderful background score which keeps us engaging.
Overall the period drama based on Historic facts is a treat to watch, which good picturization and screen play.
The North Audience may face difficulty in understanding names, but being a historical movies, name had to be the same.
Over all i give this movie a 4/5
